Ruining the surprise: Airman turns tables on girlfriend at Stingrays game
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
Leave it to an airman home from a seven-month deployment to one-up his girlfriend's surprise.
At Tuesday night's South Carolina Stingrays game, Jessie Knight coordinated with the team to have her boyfriend, U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Henry Hoegen, named the Hero of the Game.
Hoegen just got back from his deployment in Africa over the weekend. Knight planned on the Stingrays honor as a way to say welcome home.
But Hoegen touched down in Charleston with a plan of his own -- ask her to marry him.
"This was all planned last minute," he said. "It's amazing. I couldn't have planned it any better. It worked out perfectly."
So, as the Stingrays fans were cheering for Hoegen's safe return, he was fishing a ring out of his pocket and taking a knee.
"Surprised! Oh my gosh! I thought I was surprising him with the hero of the game because he was coming back and I was so excited because I thought I'd planned something nice for him," Knight said.
"He pulled a fast one!"
Needless to say, she said yes.
