CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Operating revenues and earnings were up at South Carolina's ports during the fiscal year that ended on June 30.
The board of the State Ports Authority was told Tuesday operating revenues of more than $140 million increased 7 percent over the previous year. And earnings of almost $13 million were up more than $5 million from the previous fiscal year.
Container volume was up again for the third straight year.
The agency is in the midst of a $1.3 billion capital improvement plan that includes a new inland port in Greer. The first gantry crane for the new port that opens in October arrived from Charleston on Monday.
The inland port provides a place to transfer containers between trucks and trains to travel by rail to and from the coast.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
