CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina State Ports Authority is releasing cargo numbers for the fiscal year that ended June 30th.
The year-end figures are being released during a meeting of the authority board Tuesday in Charleston. The board will also deal with a resolution to raise the dikes of its dredge spoils area on Charleston harbor to handle more silt dredged from the shipping channel.
The board last month approved a $123 million capital spending plan for the fiscal year that began July 1. That budget includes about $29 million for the new inland port in Greer.
The inland port is to open in September, providing a direct rail link to the Charleston port facilities. It's expected to reduce the number of trucks traveling on Interstate 26.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
