Riverdogs' taking concessions a healthy step further with sushi dog in 2014

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The Riverdogs in recent years havetaken traditional ballpark favorites and turned them into unique Charlestoncreations at Joe Riley Park.

This year will be no different. The park is introducingthree healthy options.

After the success of last year's beer shakes and peanutbutter and jelly bacon burger, the Riverdogs announced this week the newestmenu option - a sushi dog. The new sushi dog is a hot dog wrapped in a Norisheet that's topped with a wasabi-mustard that's a little sweet and a littlespicy and a cilantro-cabbage slaw.

There's also a carrot dog made of an herb-and-honey-roastedcarrot served on bun with a sriracha honey drizzle and a dose of thecilantro-cabbage slaw.

For people who choose burgers over dogs every time, the parkwill also introduce a turkey burger.

John Schumacher, the top food man at The Joe, is alsobringing in a commercial smoker that allows for smoked brisket, tri-tipsirloin, smoked frog legs, and some specials that he's not giving away justyet.

Last year's beer shakes will return, but Schumacher said theirpopularity convinced him to add spiked beer shakes to the list. Now the beershakes will have a little added kick of hard liquor.

The park will also add a new, only-at-the-Joe beer fromPalmetto Brewery called the Original Riverdog.

The wine garden will also get a makeover this year,Schumacher said, becoming a Sangria garden and will offer a variety of flavors.

The kids menu will also have a few new items, including acrustless peanut butter and jelly sandwich and applesauce. The park will alsohave a staple of most childhoods, Capri Sun drinks.
