USS Clamagore may soon be finding new mission off Florida coast
The USS Clamagore submarine docked at Patriots Point will soon find a new calling.
Resting in the Cooper River, this year's remembrance ceremony could be the last sailors gets to spend with their beloved sub.
“There’s a possibility the Clamagore may be going to its' final patrol. Its' final dive," said James Griffin, Clamagore Veteran’s Association.
The vessel’s next mission may be that of a reef off the Florida coast, as millions of dollars of up-keeping makes the financial burden too much.
"Unfortunately, our board has made the decision, and they really had no choice, that the Clamagore needs to go somewhere else. We have hoped for many years that we would have found another home for her at a museum," said Mac Burdette, Executive Director for Patriot’s Point.
