Victim of deadly wrong-way crash in Moncks Corner identified
The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has released the name of a man killed after his truck ran off Highway 17A and struck a tree over the weekend.
Chief Deputy Coroner George Oliver reported Monday 63-year-old Donald S. Mackenzie Jr. of Bonneau died as a result of that Saturday afternoon crash in Moncks Corner. The coroner said Mackenzie's truck ran off the left side of the road. Crash scene investigators with the highway patrol reported Saturday that Mackenzie was driving the wrong way.
Why Mackenzie was driving the wrong way down the road and other things that may have contributed to the crash are still unknown. Officials say the driver of a Cadillac swerved to miss Mackenzie's truck and that vehicle also hit a tree.
All five people in that Cadillac were taken to a local hospital, and their conditions are unknown.
