David Barrow has won a special election to fill an open seat on Berkeley County's school board.

Barrow will represent School Board District 5, completing the remainder of a four-year term started by Brian Adams.

The seat opened up in December, when Adams resigned only weeks after he was elected.

As a North Charleston Police Officer, Adams could not legally hold a second public office, according to a state statute.

Adams stepped down from the board position, rather than give up his job in law enforcement.

Barrow will serve the remainder of Adams' term, which ends in 2020.

Meanwhile. Christie Rainwater won a special election to fill a vacant seat on Hanahan's City Council.

The seat will be up for reelection again in 2018.
