AUSTIN, Texas — Counter-protesters to Saturday's Dixie Freedom Rally gathered at the state capitol in Austin.

The counter-protest took place even though the original pro-Confederate demonstration was cancelled.

Another Dixie Freedom Rally was scheduled to take place in August, but it was postponed due to concerns over violence following the deadly protests over Confederate monuments in Charlottesville, Va.

DPS arrested Andrew Alemao, from Iowa City, Iowa, for assaulting a trooper while attempting to flee. While taking Alemao into custody, Angelica Hale, from Austin, attempted to interfere and was arrested.

Alemao will be charged with assaulting a peace officer, a third degree felony. Hale is being charged with interference with public duty, a Class A misdemeanor.
