Jefferson Awards: December recipient has a love and dedication for knitting
Solveig Bracy is the recipient of the December Jefferson Awards.
Bracy said she started knitting when she was just eight years old back in her native, Denmark.
Bracy went from knitting blankets for cancer survivors to knitting beanies for babies all in a span of 14 years.
“It’s a very, very big part of my life, It’s my second home. I have gotten a lot of friends from working here. A lot of patients like to come talk to me. They call me the knitting lady,” said Bracy of her time at Roper St. Francis.
She said she has made 1,270 beanies for babies to date in just two and a half years.
Bracy’s volunteer hours have exceeded more than 12,000 hours and last month, she was also honored as a health care hero by the Charleston Business Journal.
