In a statement released not long after the mistrial ruling in the murder trial of Michael Slager, 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson made it clear that the former police officer's days in court will continue.

Wilson offered thoughts and prayers to the family of Walter Scott, the man shot several times in the back by Slager following a traffic stop, foot chase and struggle last year.

"We are grateful for their patience, understanding and cooperation with us," Wilson said of the Scott family in her statement. "They have not received the credit they deserve in their calm leadership for the community. The Scotts have been a sterling example of dignity and grace in extraordinary circumstances. This is a very difficult time for them, but I have no doubt that they will continue to support our efforts to find justice for this case. I have no doubt that they will continue to show their faith in the criminal justice system."

Wilson said she was disappointed the case was not resolved, but she praised the sacrifices or jurors who sacrificed time in attempt to reach a verdict.

"We will try Michael Slager again," she said. "We hope the federal and state courts will coordinate efforts regarding any future trial dates, but we stand ready whenever the court calls."
