High School Hero Week 12: Summerville's Kawuan Cox

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) --{}Summerville's Kawuan Cox is gentle giant off the football field, and a locomotive on the field. Cox is Summerville High School's star defensive end who has helped the Green Wave make it to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

And that makes him this week's High School Hero.{}

Cox, who played running back most of his young football life, didn't start playing defensive end until his sophomore year, where he registered five sacks in one game.

"Everyone was saying, 'Good job, good job,' hitting and calling me Clowney Junior," Cox said. "I love playing football."

But that's not all the defensive lineman loves. Of all the dogs in the world, Cox's favorite is the Chihuahua.{}

"I really like dogs. I'm soft-hearted when it comes to animals," he said.{}

But Cox is a bullet train when it comes to hunting quarterbacks.

"A train's job is to get from Point A to Point B. I have that job as well, and it's to get that quarterback," Cox said. {}

Speaking of trains, Cox excels in the classroom and wants to be an engineer in the railroad industry when he graduates college.

Cox is now a junior and has been playing well enough to get Division I schools to notice him. So far he has received attention from South Carolina and Virginia Tech.
