It's official: Chad Holbrook hired at College of Charleston
Despite a push from former College of Charleston baseball players, the mystery surrounding the future of the program is over. Former University of South Carolina coach Chad Holbrook will be coaching the CofC baseball team.
The athletics department issued a press release Thursday morning at around 11:30 a.m., making the deal with Holbrook official and ending what became a confusing and challenging saga to follow.
CofC will hold an official press conference to introduce Holbrook as head coach on Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m.
"We are excited to add Chad, Jenn, Reece and Cooper to the College of Charleston family," athletics director Matt Roberts said. "It is a tribute to the tremendous heritage and tradition created by our incredible baseball alumni that our program can attract a coach with the talent, experience and national reputation of Chad Holbrook. It's a great day to be a Cougar."
In tweets Thursday morning, Holbrook said it's a "privilege to be associated with the College’s incredible tradition of excellence that I have admired for years." He also described coaching at CofC as an honor. He said he and his family are also looking forward to joining the Charleston community.
"My family and I can’t wait to entrench ourselves in one of the most unique communities in the country," he said.
