(WACH) -- South Carolina men's basketball star Rakym Felder is coming back to the University of South Carolina. The thing is, however, he won't be playing in Colonial Life Arena with this year's squad.

Felder was suspended in August of 2017. According to police reports at the time, Felder spit on a woman late at night leading to a brawl. Since the incident occurred, the charges have been dropped. It was the second time in his short tenure with the Gamecocks he'd been suspended from the team.

During a teleconference on Friday, South Carolina men's basketball coach said, "Rakym [Felder] and I have gotten to a good place, my bosses and I have had that conversation, everyone is on board with him becoming a part of our school again starting here in January, that date has not been set."

Regarding his future with the men's basketball team, Martin said, "I have made the decision that Rakym will not play this year. There are certain things that I am asking Rakym to do before I allow him to be a part of our day-to-day basketball team again. Those are things that I’m going to keep in private for now. Rakym will not be available to the media while we are going through this stage because he is not playing, but I love him as a kid, and I feel an unbelievable responsibility because of how honest and how loyal he has been to me, and to this school, to help him."

Martin also wanted to make it clear that Felder is still a young man and has a lot to learn when it comes to life outside the basketball court.

"He made a bad mistake, a mistake that hurts me deeply, but at the same time, I have an 18-year old son," Martin said. "I want whoever my son ends up trusting in during his college career, I would want that coach to discipline him, to deal with him, but at the same time not throw him out there to the wolves."

Felder took to Twitter early on Friday and said, "I’m Free ???????? Gamecock Nation!!! I Will Continue To Better Myself On & Off The Court Daily ?? My Promise To You’ll ??."

South Carolina men's basketball next takes on Ole Miss on the road on Sunday, December 31st.
