Brandon McIlwain leaving the Gamecocks, transferring to another university
COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 1, 2017) – Two-sport athlete Brandon McIlwain announced that he would be transferring at the end of the semester Wednesday.
On his Twitter page, McIllwaint announced that he would be leaving the Gamecock football and baseball team.
The quarterback played in eight games with three starts. As an outfielder on the baseball field the Newtown, P.A. native completed 62-of-188 passes for 600 yards.
"Brandon came by today and spoke to me about transferring from the University of South Carolina," said head coach Will Muschamp. "I support his decision and wish him all the best."
"Brandon has all the skills to be a terrific baseball player," said head baseball coach Chad Holbrook. "I have no doubt as he devotes more time to the sport, he can do great things. We have enjoyed him immensely and we wish him well as his career moves.
Considered to be one of the hardest decisions in his life, McIllwait says it is time for a change and hopes that everyone can respect his decision.
