Bridge run winner dodged reporters for wife
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
ABC News 4 morning anchor Jon Bruce was trying desperately to keep the attention of the first American to win the Cooper River Bridge Run since 1991.
But U.S. Army specialist Shadrack Kipchirchir had other things on his mind after finishing the race.
He ran away from reporters. It wasn't because he was dodging questions.
Kipchirchir's wife finished second in the elite women's race, and he ran to embrace her and congratulate her on her run.
Their cash prizes combined, the couple will take home $13,000.
We could see more of this in the future of the Cooper River Bridge Run. Given Kipchirchir's feelings on the race before he knew his wife finished second in the women's group, it shouldn't be a surprise to see the couple running in Charleston again.
"I like it here. I love it here," he said of the music and friendly atmosphere of the race.
