Timberland pounds out 20-7 win over Hanahan with steady ground game | Friday Night Rivals

Timberland (WCIV)

A dogged ground attack put the Timberland Wolves on the right side of the win-loss column Friday, with a 20-7 win over Hanahan in the Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week.

Johnson Thomas had a 53-yard touchdown run, Roger Gibbs ran one into the end zone from 41 yards out, and Jaquez Mitchell had a 2-yard scoring dive to give Timberland the victory.

Timberland led 7-0 at halftime on Gibbs' TD run, as Hanahan struggled to find a rhythm on offense in the first half.

The Hawks (3-5) did briefly tie the game at 7-7 with 9:33 to play in the third quarter on a 37-yard TD run from Quincy Mitchell.

However, Timberland (4-3) took the lead for good on the following drive thanks to Thomas's long scoring run with 8:06 to play in the third.

Tyler Sumpter and Emanuel Moultrie had interceptions for Timberland.

James Island hosts Summerville in the next Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week, Oct. 13.
