Gabe Giardina is eighth Charleston Southern coach to leave program since January
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
Charleston Southern's football staff is losing another coach.
Gabe Giardina is now the Bucs’ former offensive coordinator, as he announced Monday he’s leaving the program to take his first head coaching job at Division II Albany State.
Giardina was thought to be a candidate to replace Jamey Chadwell at CSU as head coach. Instead, he becomes the 8th coach to leave that staff since January.
Giardina, a longtime Buc, spent four seasons on staff under Chadwell, and another four seasons before that as an assistant under Jay Mills.
Now, Giardina takes over a program with a winning legacy that’s in a bit of a dry spell. Albany State has won 15 conference titles over the past three decades, but not since 2013.
Giardina will reportedly take at least one current CSU football coach with him to Albany State.
