Lady Gamecocks party in Columbia delayed for weather
UPDATE: Due to possible severe weather this afternoon, the University of South Carolina women's basketball team will be honored at a celebration combined with a parade Sunday April 9 at 3 p.m. Details TBA.
Colonial Life Arena in Columbia will claim a mark in history today. It will host fans, players and coaches for a celebration of the university's first NCAA title in basketball.
Doors will open at 3 p.m., and the party is expected to begin at 4 p.m.
In addition to the Lady Gamecocks and their coaches, athletics director Ray Tanner and USC president Harris Pastides will be in attendance and take part in the celebration. The event marks Tanner's first time celebrating an NCAA title win as the university's athletic director and the first time he's celebrated a national title since coaching the men's baseball team to its second NCAA championship in 2011.
The Lady Gamecocks captured the title Sunday night with a 67-55 win over Mississippi State.
