Bishop England drops Game 1 to Seneca

The Lowcountry was represented by only one team in the state championships this week.

Bishop England won in dramatic14-inning fashion against Aynor in the lower states before making the long trip up past Clemson to Seneca to play game one of the state title series against the Bobcats

The Bishops battled the Bobcats in Game 1 of the 3A State Championship Series.

Bishop England starter Shawn Runey did a nice job of keeping Seneca off balance, scattering five hits and striking out three.

But Seneca starter Tristen Hudson was just a bit better. Hudson struck out eight and only allowed one hit to Bishop England.

The Bobcats broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. Petey Ridley ripped a single right back up the middle and Walker Thathrop scored easily from third.

But Seneca added an insurance run late and the Bobcats blank Bishop England two-nothing.

Game 2 is Tuesday at Bishop England.

Seneca is a win away from their first state baseball championship since 1987.
