Brawl keeping Wando, James Island out of 2017 Sertoma Football Classic
Wando and James Island didn't shake hands after their rivalry game in September, and despite thoughts on sportsmanship it was probably a good idea. A brawl happened late in the third quarter and it took referees and coaches several minutes to regain order and sort out what happened.
Officials indicated one player from Wando and James Island's Khalil Roper and Jordon Stanley were ejected after the dust settled.
Now, the South Carolina High School league has gotten in on the consequences. As a result, Wando and James Island are being kept from participating in the Sertoma Football Classic in August.
“I’m disappointed we lost our composure there. I know (James Island head coach Ike Allred) is, as well,” Wando coach Jimmy Noonan said after the fight. “We’ll work on those things, and that part of the game. We’re always in control of ourselves. We’ve got to remember that.”
We've asked the South Carolina High School League for a statement regarding the decision. This article will be updated when we receive it.
