Coach Dennie McDaniel steps down at St. John's High School

Dennie McDaniel (WCIV)

There a change at St. John's High School, but it's likely not what you think.

Head football coach Dennie McDaniel has stepped down, and the Charleston County School District has confirmed it was completely his decision.

His choice comes as a bit of a surprise as he was 12-10 over two seasons and 7-1 in region play. He led the team to the playoffs both years.

Prior to putting in the time on the island, McDaniel was an assistant at Stratford for nearly two decades under hall of fame coach Ray Stackley.

We asked McDaniel to comment on his decision, but so far he has declined to speak about it.
