Rob Gronkowski aggressively hits opponent after the whistle is blown
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is trending on Twitter after aggressively hitting Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White after refs blew the whistle to end the play.
White intercepted a pass from quarterback Tom Brady and as White was called down, Gronkowski pummeled the back of White's head with his elbow.
To the surprise of many fans on Twitter, Gronkowski was not ejected or even called for a penalty for the game. SB Nation called Gronk's hit, "a cheap shot" while Deadspin described the play saying "bad Gronk squashes opponent after the whistle, somehow doesn't get ejected."
White, on the other hand, was evaluated for a head injury and left the game. The Patriots went on to win the game 23 to 3, improving their record to 10-2. Gronkowski caught 9 receptions for 147 yards.
