Coast Guard rescues boaters in Charleston harbor

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people on Saturday evening from a capsized boat 11 miles off of the Charleston Harbor.

A crew from Coast Guard Sector Charleston was called to help the boaters of the 28-foot vessel taking on water at 5:39 p.m. Saturday. Coast Guard officials said the boaters used their VHF-FM marine radio to call for help.

In turn, COast Guard officials called for other boaters in the area to assist until they could get to the scene. A Charleston Branch Pilot boat responded and located the then-capsized boat, recovering all four people from the water about an hour after the distress call was made.

Crew members from Coast Guard Station Charleston transferred the boaters from the pilot boat and aboard the Coast Guard 41-foot Utility Boat a few minutes later.

The boaters were transported to the shore with no medical concerns. All four boaters were wearing life jackets, officials said.
