BERKELEY S.C. (WCIV) -- A 30-year-old man is killed and two others rushed to the hospital as a result of a fiery collision Sunday morning near Ridgeville.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after midnight on I-26 westbound at the 189 mile marker.
That's where state troopers say a Ford SUV ran off into the median and when they returned back to the roadway they hit a car before driving off the right side of the interstate. When the SUV left the road it struck several trees and burst into flames.
The driver was killed in the accident, he has been identified by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office as Gerald Adam Metts of Summerville
The two people in the car the SUV hit were taken to Trident Medical Center to be treated.
State troopers say they did get a report from a concerned citizen just minutes before the crash, that the SUV was driving erratically.
This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.
