CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It was a very busy morning for firefighters throughout the lowcountry on Thursday.

The calls began around 11 p.m. when firefighters from multiple agencies were dispatched to a reported house fire on West Beach Court on Folly Beach. Fire crews were on the scene well into Thursday morning. It's unknown what started the reported fire or if anyone was hurt.

Less than thirty minutes later, firefighters from the Charleston Fire Department and St. Andrews Fire Department were called to a home on Hoss Road in West Ashley.

An official on scene says firefighters spotted flames coming from the rear of the home when they arrived. They were able to get control of the fire within fifteen minutes. Five people were sleeping in the home when they heard an alarm coming from their smoke detector. Officials say the home was filled with smoke when the residents woke up. They were able to escape without injury.

Fire officials have traced the source to the kitchen.
