FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mardi Gras took over Folly Beach this weekend complete with food, a parade and fun.

Hundreds came out for the seventh annual Folly Gras event on Center Street, celebrating the "Laissez les bons temps rouler" attitude with Folly Beach flair.

The parade and the street party ran until 5 p.m. There was all kinds of food, live music and people dressed in costumes. Even the dogs got in on the Mardi Gras celebration.

Some came out in full regalia, donning masks, feathers, hats and beads. Others kept the beach vibe going by pairing fishnets with flip flops.

Corey Hernon came in from West Ashley with his friend, Kayleigh Hovland who was visiting from Chicago."It's been a great time. Weather's been great, everybody's out," he said. "The parade was fun, everything's been fun.""It's a beautiful day for friends and family to be together," Kayleigh said. While the fun is mostly family friendly, the alcohol was flowing freely and many revelers were partaking in Mardi Gras spirits.

The Folly Beach Arts and Crafts Guild also hosted the Art in the Park Fair in Folly River Park on Saturday. There were handmade crafts and other art for sale.

The Carnival season in New Orleans runs for two weeks. This year, festivities will culminate in an extended Mardi Gras weekend party that starts on Feb 28 and doesn't end until Fat Tuesday, March 4.
