Private Cheizray Pressley was killed supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Counseling hundreds of students year after year is her job. When they leave Fort Dorchester, guidance counselor Laura Jones, remembers some for their good grades, and some for their struggles.

Jones remembers Cheizray Pressley as being a really nice young man.

Pressley, an Army private, was killed Monday in Afghanistan. The department of defense says his unit was hit by a roadside bomb in the city of Spin Ghbarga, in Zabul province.

"He moved here his senior year," Jones said. "It was after the year had started, but fairly close to the beginning of the school year."

She said that he adjusted well to Fort Dorchester High School and to North Charleston.

"I remember him adjusting pretty well and making friends. He had a lot of friends."

Those friends, now learning of the passing of their classmate. Pressley graduated in 2008. He joined the Army in September 2010.

"To have a student that, years later, I do remember...I remember him being a really nice young man. I think that says a lot about his character."

Pressley's body arrived at Dover Air Force Base on Thursday and is on it's way to the Lowcountry. No funeral plans have been set.

Pressley was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
