Magnolia Plantation grows thanks to volunteers

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- It takes a great deal of work to keep Magnolia Plantations and Gardens as stunning as it is. It also takes a great deal of volunteers with its Adopt-a-Flowerbed program.

Currently, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is recruiting a corps of volunteers to plant and tend to the annual and perennial flowerbeds. The effort allows amateur gardeners and groups to plant, weed, deadhead and prune. No experience is necessary.

Nikki Cabrera with Magnolia Plantation told Lowcountry Live, "It could be anybody any time."

Cabrera said that the Adopt-a-Flowerbed program helps the environment as well as the volunteer, by providing exercise, stress reduction and relaxation. For others, she noted that it may provide a creative outlet and a sense of accomplishment.

"It allows volunteers to add their own personal touch to a follower bed," said Cabrera.

There will be a volunteer orientation on June 24 at 2pm. For more information or to volunteer, contact Magnolia Plantation at (843) 571-1266.
