Deputies: No bond for man who stabbed, hit wife with car

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) -- Bond was denied for a Fort Mill man accused of stabbing his wife and hitting her with a rental car on Monday.

According to Orangeburg County deputies, officers were called to the Orangeburg Regional Medical Center early Monday morning after a woman had been stabbed in the neck and hit with a rental car.

Deputies say Michael Dwayne Barber attacked his wife.

The attack, they said, came during a New York-to-Cape Canaveral trip that stemmed from the couple missing their Bahamas cruise from a New York port.

Not to have their vacation ruined by missing the ship, they started the long drive to Florida to catch the ship there. However, that all came undone when the couple got into an argument on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg around 1:45 a.m. Monday, deputies said.

Ultimately, deputies say the situation escalated to the point Barber stabbed his wife in the neck and hit her with the rental car. His wife was able to get help and was taken to the medical center for treatment.

According to deputies, Barber was found in a local restaurant. He was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
