Georgetown nightclub shooting suspect surrenders

    CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man who police said fired several shots at TJ's Lounge on Fraser Street last week has surrendered to Georgetown police.The suspect, 29-year-old Shawan A. Mercer, turned himself in to law enforcement Wednesday. He has been lodged in the Georgetown County Detention Center.Investigators said Mercer fired several shots in the club last Wednesday, but did not strike anyone.Charleston County Sheriff's deputies had to step in when the incident that started in Georgetown crossed county lines after police said Mercer led authorities on a high speed chase.Officials said three suspects, including Mercer, jumped out of the car, left the vehicle running and ran off on foot while the car rolled into an abandoned house on River Road.One suspect was caught and arrested.Mercer was wanted for failure to stop for a blue light and siren, possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, unlawful carrying a handgun, discharging a firearm into a structure, unlawful carrying a firearm onto a premise selling alcohol and Driving under suspension.Charleston County Sheriff's deputies and South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers assisted.Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Georgetown Police Department at 843-545-4300 or dial 911.
