Thousands flock to Bridge Run Expo

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Race day isn't until Saturday, but over the next two days thousands of people will pour into the North Charleston Convention Center for the Bridge Run Expo.

The first stop for walkers and runners is to pick up your race bib.

The Cooper River Bridge Run is one of the largest 10Ks in the Southeast, so people come from all over to be a part of the race. The Deroberts have been coming for years from the Upstate.

"We have been looking forward to this for weeks and months, planning it with our friends," said Erika and Brian Deroberts, runners from Greenville. "It's the best race we do, hands down. It's the best race, it's the most well organized -- it's so fun."

The next stop is to pick up the rest of your packet and the lines all seemed to move quickly thanks to the help of a lot of volunteers. Once they had packets in hand, some people took the time to check out all the latest and greatest running gadgets and necessities.

Shirley Powell{}and Janneth Griffin{}wanted to make sure they had everything they needed before race day.

"We have already got ourselves fit for the race, so we were purchasing bottles and stuff to take our cell phone and our water bottles," said Powell.

They both agreed the location was ideal and were thankful they could swing by on their lunch break.

"It's a one-stop shop here. I mean the shoes are here, the outfits are here, all the equipment you need, water bottles. It's a one-stop shop, so once we leave we are going to be ready," said Griffin.

More than 200 vendors are at the expo and there was even live music to entertain folks as they walked by.

The expo will be open until 8 p.m. Thursday and then again from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. It is free and open to the public.
