Charleston County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested Helen Williams, 50, on a bench warrant after she failed to appear in court for a pending case related to a deadly 2017 hit and run.

Deputies say they responded to a home on the 4900 block of Piedmont Avenue around 4:30 p.m. to assist North Charleston Police Department with a barricade situation.

The suspect threatened individuals, and refused to comply with officers and leave the residence, authorities say.

Capt. Roger Antonio says deputies took over command, and deployed crisis negotiators and the SWAT team, because the sheriff's office is responsible for all General Sessions Court bench warrants.

The suspect was taken into custody after speaking with negotiators and leaving the home without incident, authorities say.
