Charleston police trying to find a suspect in Meeting St. Wednesday shooting

The Charleston Police Department says they responded to the I-26 ramp from Meeting Street in Downtown Charleston in reference to a homicide that happened at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30.

The victim’s vehicle made a left-hand turn from Meeting Street onto the I-26 ramp where the victim became involved in some type of altercation with another vehicle, police said.

Police say the victim was located deceased near his vehicle.

The Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Kraus identified the victim as Dominque Sheppard, 48, of North Charleston. He died at MUSC at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday from the gunshot wound he sustained from the shooting, Kraus said.

Police say the victim’s vehicle was located on the on ramp to I-26 partially in the roadway and partially on the shoulder.
