Authorities have taken to the air Tuesday to search for two stolen vehicle suspects wanted by the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.

The area of the search is near the intersection of Augusta Highway (SC Hwy. 61) and Sidneys Road, about a 1.5 miles from the Dorchester-Colleton County border along the Edisto River.

Deputies say two men ran from them shortly after noon Tuesday after crashing a vehicle into a pond in the area of Grubers Crossroads in rural Colleton County.

The suspects had led an officer on a chase, then evaded authorities by swimming through the pond where the vehicle crashed, according to Colleton County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Shalane Lowes.

The S.C. Dept. of Natural Resources has joined Colleton County deputies in searching for the suspects. Authorities are using a helicopter to assist in looking for the two men.

The suspects are described as a white male wearing a yellow and white shirt, and a black male wearing a blue shirt with a red hat. Deputies have not said what criminal charges the men are wanted for.

If you see these suspects, please contact the Colleton County Sheriff's Office at 843-549-2211.
