Deputies: Man arrested after standoff, shooting at James Island home off Camp Road
JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) —
Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a man after a several hour standoff at an address along the 1300 block of Camp Road in James Island Wednesday morning.
Deputies say the man, Kristopher L. Upchurch, barricaded himself inside the residence after reportedly shooting at a woman, who is his neighbor. No one was injured in the shooting, deputies say.
The sheriff's office says it's deputies arrested Upchurch shortly before 2 a.m. CCSO spokesperson Maj. Eric Watson says deputies were originally called to the scene for a report of a verbal dispute between neighbors.
Deputies arrived on the scene that Upchurch had threatened his neighbor and fired a gunshot at the ground near her feet during their argument.
CCSO's SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were called to the scene. After several failed attempts to communicate with Upchurch, CCSO says crews deployed tear gas into the residence. Deputies then arrested him.
Upchurch is in jail at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, charged with pointing and presenting a firearm. His bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m.
