Man found guilty on sexual misconduct charges from December 2014, solicitor's office says
Solicitor Scarlett Wilson announced that Andrew Allston Kirkland was found guilty by a Charleston Count jury for sexual misconduct in the third degree.
The verdict was handed down on Wednesday after a three-day trial.
The incident happened in December 2014 when the victim came to Charleston from Beaufort to spend time with Kirkland and his brother, Wilson said.
After going out to a local bar and then going to sleep, the victim said she was awoken early in the morning to Kirkland sexually assaulting her, Wilson said.
Kirkland is sentenced to five years of incarceration suspended upon one year of incarceration followed by four years or probation, Wilson said.
Assistant Solicitor Drew Evans who prosecuted the case stated, "We were very pleased with the jury's decision and glad that the victim can begin her full recovery from the incident in earnest.”
