North Charleston man shoots, kills person over stolen vehicle, police say
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
A shooting on Celestial Court in North Charleston Wednesday morning was sparked by a confrontation over an allegedly stolen vehicle, according to North Charleston Police.
NCPD officers and EMS were dispatched shortly before 7:45 a.m. to a reported shooting Celestial Court, located in a neighborhood near Boeing, the airport and the I-26 x I-526 interchange.
On scene, officers found a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds, with the owner of the vehicle nearby, according to North Charleston Police Dept. spokesperson Spencer Pryor.
The owner told police he learned his allegedly stolen vehicle was in the area, and went to Celestial Court to confront the person who was found shot in the vehicle.
Police say the vehicle's owner fired a gun at the person he found inside his vehicle. That individual later died from injuries he suffered in the shooting, police say.
According to Pryor, the owner of the vehicle has been detained and is being questioned by detectives. The incident remains under investigation.
