North Charleston Police charge man with sexual assault of minor
North Charleston Police have charged a man with sexually abusing and showing pornography to a child.
Michael Dean Duncan. 36, is in jail at the Dorchester County Detention Center, charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, and disseminating obscene materials to a minor.
Duncan was arrested by North Charleston Police and U.S. Marshals on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Boeing North Charleston facility.
The arrest and charges stem from multiple alleged incidents between January 2013 and March 2014. The victim, 8-years-old at the time, claimed Duncan sexually abused her on several occasions.
No charges were filed at the time, but police reopened the case in March 2018, when police say the victim reportedly revealed in-depth details of the assaults to a therapist.
The victim claims Duncan forced her to watch pornography and perform sex acts on him, according to arrest affidavits from the North Charleston Police Department.
Duncan, then of Ladson, made headlines in 2014 when he was arrested near Asheville, North Carolina, on a felony bigamy charge for being married to two women at the same time.
According to warrants from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, Duncan married a Moncks Corner woman in North Carolina while still married to another woman. The Moncks Corner woman learned of the old marriage, and asked deputies to investigate, affidavits show.
A magistrate judge on Wednesday set Duncan's bond on the obscene materials charge at $200,000, but did not set bond on the sexual assault charge.
Duncan will remain in jail at least until Nov. 13 when he appears before a circuit judge for a second bond hearing on the sexual misconduct charge.
