Man found dead in car after West Ashley shooting

Charleston police say a man was found dead in a car, after a reported shooting in West Ashley early Wednesday morning. The investigation stopped traffic in the area, but all lanes reopened by 5 a.m.

The shooting was reported near the intersection of Savannah Highway and I-526, according to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch.

A large scene was visible from South Carolina Department of Transportation cameras at around 12:30 a.m.

Police first responded to the scene just after midnight.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the shooting victim as Thomas Brodbeck, 27, of the Charleston area.

Brodbeck was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, officials.

Charleston Police are still investigating the circumstances leading to Brodbeck's death.
