Dorchester Co. School District 2 will use K-9 units to conduct random contraband checks
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) —
Starting next week, Dorchester County School District 2 leads say authorities will use K-9 units to conduct random contraband checks.
The checks will take place at DD2's three high schools; Summerville, Fort Dorchester, and Ashley Ridge.
Officials say the K-9 units will be used to examine buildings, parking lots, and bags for contraband. They say the K-9 units will not have any interactions with students.
If a K-9 enters a classroom, officials say students will be brought into the hallway while they search the bags inside, and say parents will be notified after searches are completed.
Officials did not say if the random checks will continue for the rest of the school year.
