MUSC reveals plan to turn Citadel Mall department store into new West Ashley facility


The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) made a huge reveal in the revitalization effort West of the Ashley, with the unveiling of renderings for its West Campus.

MUSC plans to clear out just over 127,000 square feet that used be home to a J.C. Penney department store at the Citadel Mall, and transform it into a medical facility offering a variety of services.

The plan is the brainchild of Richard Davis, who bought Citadel Mall with his wife Ginger 20 months ago.

Video released on Tuesday shows how the new destination to work, live, and play will look. A mixed use development with residential, office and entertainment space that hopes to become the epicenter of a revitalized of West Ashley.

MUSC's West Campus is expected to open in December of 2019. The departments MUSC expects the facility to house are listed below:
