Madra Rua to return 'bigger and better' from fire, Park Circle pub staff promise

Madra Rua to return 'bigger and better' from fire, Park Circle pub staff promise (WCIV)

Bigger and better.

That's what the manager of Madra Rua says the future holds for the Irish pub, which was badly damaged by a fire early Saturday morning, Feb. 9.

"You come in day to day and you take it for granted until something bad happens," said James Hartzog, the General Manager of Madra Rua Irish Pub.

On a day when the rains came down, he said up is the only way to go.

"We're not giving up, we’re doing everything we can to open back up as fast as possible."

Officials confirmed Monday they don't yet know what started the fire at the Park Circle restaurant. As of Tuesday, a GoFundMe had raised more than $17,000 of its $20,000 goal..

"I come here pretty much all the time," said Michael Brack, a Madra Rua regular. "That genuine Irish pub atmosphere. There's always somewhere to hang and watch the game."

"Our hearts are deep in with those guys," said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. He said he's eaten at the pub since it opened 16 years ago. "These guys have a heart for what they've been doing over the years, and it’s going to grow right back."

"If anything this is going to make everyone, staff including community, grow together and just be a bigger family in the end," Hartzog added.

As of Monday, a dollar amount was unavailable for how much damage the fire caused. Hartzog told ABC News 4 that was because insurance adjusters had not yet visited the pub.
