A man is recovering after being shot while breaking into an Adams Run home early Saturday morning, according to a release from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a home in the 5300 block of Mauss Hill Road at around 3:30 a.m. for reports of a home invasion. Upon arrival, they found a man lying inside of the home near the front door.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Lawrence Butler Jr., shattered a glass window in the front door of the home before climbing into the opening, at which time he was shot by the homeowner.

The shot struck the intruder in the left arm, deputies say. Butler told detectives he was at a party where he took drugs and drank alcohol shortly before he broke into the home.

Authorities found a small bag of cocaine after a search of the suspect, according to CCSO.

The victims, a man and woman in their 60s, are not expected to face charges in the shooting.

Butler was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center shortly before noon on charges of first-degree burglary and cocaine possession.
