Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester County schools to resume normal schedules Wednesday

The Berkeley County School District announced Tuesday that students will return to school Wednesday, January 10, on their normal schedule.

BCSD employees are to report to work at their regular time, district officials said in a press release.

BCSD spokesperson Cicely McCray says school bus pick up and parent drop-off will operate on a normal schedule, but district officials want parents and guardians to accompany young children to the bus stops in case of possible delays.

Athletics, extracurricular activities, before school and after school care programs will resume as normal Wednesday, as well, the district says.

Charleston County announced on Twitter that all public schools will be returning to normal schedule Wednesday.

Dorchester District Two schools will open for students and all staff on Wednesday, Jan. 10 and will operate on a normal schedule. DD2 said, "We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding during this major weather event."

Colleton County public schools opened today with a two hour delay.

Now the question of makeup days comes into question.

Dorchester District two said makeup days will be discussed by the district and board when they return, and CCSD says they have a proposal on the table that would give "forgive" the days missed in which students will not makeup them up. CCSD's proposal will be voted on on Monday, January 22.

BCSD said it already designated built in calendar days to makeup for Hurricane Irma last year. They also said any others would need to be approved by the board.
