Charleston County Extends Comment Period for Two West Ashley Projects
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
People now have more time to comment and two road projects planned for different areas of West Ashley.
The comment period for both the SC 7 and SC 171 Intersection Improvements project and the Glenn McConnell Parkway Widening project through January 31, 2019.
The original comment periods were scheduled to end in early January. Officials say the decision to extend the process was based on public feedback.
Improvements are planned for the intersection of SC 7 (Sam Rittenberg Blvd.) and SC 171 (Old Towne Road).
The plan calls for relieving traffic congestion by increasing roadway capacity within the existing right-of-way limits of Glenn McConnell Parkway between Bees Ferry Road and Magwood Drive, officials say. The goal is to widen Glenn McConnell Parkway from two to three lanes in each direction, and provide a new multi-use pathway within the project limits that will allow safe pedestrian access across the CSX railway.
