15-year-old shot to death in alleged North Charleston stolen vehicle confrontation

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has confirmed the person that died in a shooting off Celestial Court in North Charleston Wednesday morning was a 15-year-old boy.

Derrick Grant, 15, from Charleston died on the scene on Wednesday from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the coroner's office.

North Charleston Police say the shooting happened at approximately 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, when a man learned a vehicle allegedly stolen from him was at an address on Celestial Court.

Police say the man went to the address to confront those in possession of the vehicle, and ultimately shot the teenager inside.

North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Wednesday that detectives were questioning the man of the allegedly stolen vehicle.

Police have not identified the man. It's unclear what circumstances led to the shooting, and if the man may face criminal charges, or if he was possibly acting in self defense.
