Charleston Police arrest suspect in downtown strong-armed robbery

Charleston Police arrested 20-year-old Tanikeol D'Arte Hawkins, of Morrison Drive, and charged him with strong-armed robbery that occurred Thursday downtown behind the Wells Fargo Bank at 177 Meeting Street.

"About 11:25 a.m., a man followed the victim out the rear entrance of the bank, pushed the victim to the ground and took a small bag from him containing money," Charleston Police say. "The suspect then ran south on Meeting Street."

Police say Hawkins is also charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun, which he had his possession when he was arrested.

Hawkins is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

According to arrest records, this is the fifth arrest in Charleston County for Hawkins.

His arrests include two separate strong armed robberies in 2015 in Charleston, when he was 17 years old, according to arrest records.
