Crash snarls early morning commute along Rivers Avenue

Crash brings morning commute to a crawl on Rivers Avenue (WCIV)

A crash slowed traffic to a crawl along Rivers Avenue in North Charleston early Wednesday morning.

The reported crash with injuries happened at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Greenridge Road around 5:45 a.m., according to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch.

Traffic on Rivers Avenue was backed up all the way to University Boulevard as of 6:30 a.m. Vehicles were only moving at two miles per on one portion of Rivers Avenue, according to WAZE.

Drivers turned to I-26 eastbound and Henry Brown Jr. Boulevard as alternate routes.

North Charleston officials blocked a portion of the intersection at Rivers Ave. and Greenridge. Multiple damaged vehicles were still on scene as of 6:25 a.m. It's unclear when the scene will be cleared.
