Charleston County deputies arrested suspect Michael Anthony Smith on two counts of strong-armed robbery over the weekend.

On February 16, just before 3:30 p.m., Charleston County sheriff’s deputies responded to a strong-armed robbery of the Sunoco gas station at 9488 Highway 78 in Ladson, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

“A male subject was involved in a scuffle with clerks while attempting to grab cash from the register,” according to the sheriff’s office. “Immediately after the robbery, a description of the suspect and his vehicle, a red Ford truck, was broadcasted to all units. An off-duty sheriff’s sergeant located the vehicle in the 10000 block of Highway 78 and detained the subject with the assistance of deputies.”

Smith was positively identified and arrested for two counts of strong armed robbery.

Deputies determined that he was involved in another strong-armed robbery earlier in the day at the same Sunoco, according to the sheriff’s office.

He is currently at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
