"DriveCam" will help supervisors keep a closer eye on CCSD bus drivers

“DriveCam” is a new camera system that the Charleston County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees recently approved to be added to all buses in the school district.

New services will be an improvement to the services CCSD currently uses with Durham.

CCSD approved the new cameras on Monday, November 27 with hopes to keep a closer eye on bus drivers in the future.

The new camera system will be able to record both the bus driver and the road, and the camera automatically activates when it senses unusual driving behavior.

The video’s feeds are then sent wirelessly to supervisors for live viewing.

With the new cameras and all their capability, it will able to help improve bus drivers’ performance on the road.

According to Durham, “Drive Cam” has shown to reduce the number of erratic events by drivers, which increases the level of safe transportation for students.

The camera system is scheduled to be on every bus used by CCSD and Durham by the end of the 2017-18 school year.
